Anastasia Castiglione, Principal
Anastasia was born in London and grew up in Cambridge but has always maintained a strong connection with her Spanish background. This has culminated in a lifelong passion for Latin dance.
She trains weekly with the Spanish Dance Society in London with the acclaimed professional dancer Theo Dantes, a senior examiner for the Society. Her association with Felipe de Algeciras and other Spanish dance clubs has enabled her to bring the best of traditional and modern Flamenco styles to her classes. She also works with the UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing, training in the Latin dance forms Rhumba, Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Samba and Paso Doble, with a view to offering classes in these dance styles in the future.
Anastasia is delighted to be the first teacher to bring the Spanish Dance Society syllabus to the Cambridge region. The Castellano School of Spanish Dance has been operating successfully for several years, providing the highest quality Flamenco instruction.
Anastasia also runs workshops for schools, colleges and corporate events across the country. She has tutored at an away-day for The Perse Girls School, choreographed the dance section of a Christmas show at Park Street Primary School in Cambridge and performed alongside Felipe de Algeciras in her local school’s International Event, to name some recent engagements.
The Spanish Dance Society The Spanish Dance Society is a non-profit organisation formed to promote interest in the art of Spanish Dance, pursuing excellence in presentation, execution and instruction. To achieve its goals, the Spanish Dance Society offers a structured method, taught through a certificate program using a structured syllabus.
Students master the basic techniques for castanets, arm movements, turns and footwork. Knowledge of the music, costumes and history of the dance is also taught. Examinations are held annually, to certify successful mastery of each level. The Spanish Dance Society has centres in several countries across the world.
